touch it

today i was heckled on the bus for having a pin that says "i love vaginas". i understand that the pin was designed to be thought-provoking, but it's clear that such a subtlety was lost on these ignorant high schoolers. i didn't say anything while on the bus, because i was headed to work, and i felt confrontation would just end up making me even more aggravated than i already was (which i never like to do while going into work, because i often get aggravated once there). plus, i had just spent the few minutes before getting on the bus frantically tearing apart the house trying to find my ipod (and our house has a nasty habit of eating things that are never to be seen again), so i was already kinda peeved.

but the comment that bothered me the most (as i mulled over the event later) was that one of the girls had said "i'm going to get one that says 'i love penises'". hey, there's nothing wrong with loving penises. i've been known to, on occasion, demonstrate my appreciation of male genitalia. but i find it sad that this 16 year old girl would rather wear a pin emblazoning her boyfriend's member than showing solidarity with other females and appreciation of her own body. is it just a teenager thing, where sexual identification is external? where it is deplorable to love your own vagina above another's genitalia?

i'm sure they didn't realize the hole they were digging themselves into with their comments, and i'm sure they'll probably have forgotten the incident entirely by next week. and i'm sure the guys they were with thought them to be funny, or even witty (which, i can assure you, they were not). i just thought the incident was a sad tell of this generation's (or at least, some of this generation's local representatives) attitudes towards sexuality.

and fuck you. i like vaginas and penises. deal, assholes.
